Language
Resource Center
General Information
What
We Are
The
MLL Language Resource Center is a state-of-the-art digital lab
designed for language learners. The LRC provides the equipment
and technical support needed by language teachers and students.
Computers are equipped with CD burners for creating multimedia
projects, language software, and video connections. Scanners and
printers are also available. Limited tape duplication services
are available, depending on copyright restrictions. The adjacent
faculty development workstation provides the necessary hardware
and software for the creation of multimedia projects including
audio and video.
Where
We Are
The Language Resource Center is located in the newly renovated
Furman Hall 226.
Hours
The CML Language Resource Center is open each term from the first
day of classes until noon on the last day of final exams, with
the exception of university holidays. The LRC is open to faculty
and students UNLESS there is a class scheduled (please check the
schedule posted on the door to FH205; if the door is CLOSED, there
is a class in session--please do not enter!).

Who
may use the LRC?
The Language Resource Center is available to all students,
faculty, and staff of Furman University.
-
Priority
The LRC is set up for language students. It is NOT
an all-purpose computer lab. Language students have priority
at all times. If all stations are in use, a non-language student
engaged in non-language activities may be asked to relinquish
his place. Students working on projects for other classes are
asked to use the general computer labs in Furman, Riley or Plyler
Halls.
-
Availability
The LRC is sometimes used for classes. Please check
the schedule on the door. If the door is closed, a class is
in session. Please do not enter.
-
Choice
of Computers
With only two exceptions, students may work at any
available station. However, please note that machine #11 is
hooked up to a scanner. If you are not scanning materials, please
choose another computer. Machine #23 (TEACH) is for use by instructors
only. It is not available for student use.

Set
Up
The computers in FH226 are set up so that even inexperienced
users will find a familiar interface each time they use the
LRC. Deep Freeze protects the configuration of the hard drive,
so please save your work to a diskette, to your G drive or upload
your files to the "My Files" folder in your First
Class account. Anything you save on the hard drive of these
computers will be wiped out as soon as the computers are rebooted.
We reboot the computers in the LRC every night.
- Food
and Drink
In order to safeguard the equipment in the LRC, we ask
that no food or drink be brought into the room. Please leave all
cups, mugs, snacks, etc. outside of FH226.
- Printing
Unnecessary printing wastes paper. Help us save the trees.
Students may print ONE copy only of a document; multiple copies
should be done at the Copy Center. The use of the color printer
is restricted to faculty only; it is not available to students.
Before printing a document, proofread it on the screen and then
click on "print preview" to get a look at how your document
will print BEFORE you get any nasty surprises.
- Assistance
The LRC is staffed full-time by LRC Assistants. If you
need help, first contact the Assistant on duty. The LRC Director
is also present Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and is there
to assist you. If neither of these people is able to solve your
problem, you may use the telephone to call the Help Line (ext.
3277) for further assistance.
- Headsets
Headsets with microphones are available for use in the LRC. Present
your Student ID card to the lab assistant on duty who will issue
you a headset.
- Videos
Videos may be checked out by faculty or language house assistants
only. Anyone checking out a video must sign it in and out with
the language lab assistant. There is a 30-day limit to video checkout.
